Come on Barbie, Let’s Go Party (with Brew Glitter)

Themed events are one of my favorite reasons for living. I love going to them, I love planning them, and I even love — on occasion — hosting them. There is one rule I have, though: every themed event must include a themed drink.

Such thoughts were in my mind when I began playing around with making a pink lemonade on the eve of the Barbie movie. I’d done this a million times before, so I grabbed my go-to (top secret) lemonade recipe, my pink prickly pear syrup, and some luster dust from the baking section of Michael’s and got to work. Except… it wasn’t quite right.

Sure, okay, it tasted great. And it was pink. Barbie™ pink, even. But lemonade shouldn’t look like Pepto-Bismol. It was too cloudy and opaque, not nearly sparkly enough, and lacked that distinctly fun energy that a glittery pink drink should have. I didn’t feel like a Barbie girl in a Barbie world. I felt like I was sipping on something my 3-year-old family friend would make and affectionately name “Cotton Candy Soup.” What’s more, the luster dust began to sink to the bottom of the pitcher almost immediately, leaving a silty residue in its wake. I knew I could do better. I just needed the right ingredient. Enter Brew Glitter.

I ordered Brew Glitter after a frenzy search for “edible drink glitter that actually works” not because it was the first result (it was not), but because of the sheer confidence of their copywriter. Not only is this stuff safely edible — it's also vegan, gluten-free, Kosher, and Halal. That’s probably the case for most glitters, but we love a transparent company. More importantly, it promises to work better than any other luster dust or edible glitter on the market because it was designed specifically for being added to drinks. That means maximum color, maximum sparkle, and no sinking or floating. It sounded like an impossible feat.

I like impossible. I ordered it.

Unpacking this glitter, I felt like a kid unwrapping a Hanukkah present. Even looking at the jar, I could tell that this hot pink impulse purchase was pigmented enough to be at home in an eyeshadow palette and glittery enough to linger around my kitchen for years if I dared spill it. In short, it was everything I’d hoped for. I couldn’t wait for even a second. I whipped up some pink lemonade and dumped in the instructed amount. And, you guysssssss…

LOOK AT HER!!!

She is beauty. She is grace. She is BARBIE. I was mesmerized. I could barely stop looking at the stuff so that I could drink it. That copywriter really knew their stuff, because Brew Glitter DELIVERED on every single claim. Even after an hour of sitting on my counter, the glitter stayed shiny, bright, and suspended in the lemonade exactly where it was supposed to be. It felt like drinking a lava lamp in the best way.

Safe to say, this glitter is probably not for every day (unless it is — power to you). It’s a bit of an investment, so my jar is currently tucked away awaiting my next special occasion. Even with that in mind, though, I found this to be an absolute delight of a product, and one well worth playing with for your next themed get-together (which I am happy to attend).
